Turning a company count into a market size
A count of live companies is a defensible starting point for a bottom-up estimate, because every number traces back to the national register. Start with the industries you sell to, then remove the companies you cannot serve: the calculator's entity type and age filters handle the common cuts, such as leaving out sole proprietorships when your product needs a corporate buyer, or focusing on companies under three years old when you sell set-up services.
Multiply the result by the share of companies you expect to fit your ideal customer profile, and then by what a customer is worth to you each year. That gives a serviceable market you can defend line by line, rather than a top-down percentage of a national figure.
What a registry count does not tell you
- Each business picks its own SSIC codes when it registers, one for its primary activity and optionally one for a secondary activity. The calculator uses the primary code only, so a company that works in your field as a secondary activity will not appear.
- Live means the entity is on the register, which does not prove it is trading.
- The open data holds no headcount or revenue, so a count cannot separate a one-person company from a large employer.

How the counts are built
- The source is ACRA's Information on Corporate Entities collection on data.gov.sg, in its update of 16 September 2026, read on 25 September 2026.
- "Live" means a status beginning with Live in ACRA's data update of 16 September 2026. That update holds registrations to 31 August 2026 but does not state the date its statuses were read, so live counts are dated to the update. Company age is measured from the registration or incorporation date to 31 August 2026.
- Industries follow each entity's primary SSIC code, classified under the Singapore Standard Industrial Classification 2025. Picking a section, division, group or class counts every five-digit activity beneath it.
- Monthly registrations count every entity registered that month, whatever its status today.
- The calculator shows counts only, never company names, UENs, addresses or officer details. It is not endorsed by ACRA or the Department of Statistics.
