Turning open and click tracking on or off
Each email campaign has two tracking switches: Track opens and Track link clicks. Set them when creating a campaign (in the Tracking section of the Create Campaign dialog) or later in the campaign's Settings tab (in the Tracking section, then Save Settings). It needs the same permission as editing the campaign (Campaigns & Email Setup, on a campaign you made, or a Super Admin).
Track opens adds a tiny invisible image to each email so you can see who opened it. Track link clicks sends each link through a tracking address first so you can see who clicked. With click tracking off, every link goes straight to its destination exactly as you wrote it. A tracked link only ever opens a link that was in that email: if a link has been changed, or cannot be confirmed as one from the email, the reader sees a page that says the link could not be confirmed instead of opening it, and no click is counted. Links routed through a different address can look suspicious to inbox filters and to people hovering over them, and corporate security scanners click every link anyway, so for cold email you usually get better inbox placement without it, and a reply is the measure that matters. The unsubscribe link and the one-click unsubscribe still work either way.
New campaigns start with open tracking on and click tracking off. Campaigns created before these switches existed keep both on, so nothing changed for them until you choose to. A duplicated campaign copies its source's switches. A change applies to emails sent after you save; emails already sent keep the links and image they went out with. With a tracker off, the Opened or Clicked card on the Analytics tab shows "Off" instead of a number, and a follow-up step that targets openers or clickers warns you that nobody can match it.
